I released my latest composition, titled "be.", today and wanted to share it here. I've been working on this piece for the past year. It explores something I'm sure we can all relate to, creating space simply to be and exist.

The seed of this composition was born out of a trip to a cabin with some friends. Normally we plan a bunch of stuff to do on these kinds of trips, record some music, play a bunch of video games, watch a movie or two, etc. But this trip felt different. We still brought some instruments to play, but we had no agenda other to just exist and "be." It was a really healing time. I brought my trio of Moog semi-modular synths, the Mother 32, Subharmonicon, and DFAM, and played around on a patch for several hours, just zoning out on it. This patch eventually became the movement Space to Be from this composition.

A few months later I was booked to play a show. I considered making something new to perform, but the patch I had dialed in on the Moogs during the trip was still resonating with me. I decided to make a new patch on my modular synth that was inspired by a Gamelan performance at my kid's school to pair with it that would be a continuation of the story I was telling with the Moogs. I [played those pieces together](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRkbWKdhOSA) and it felt great, but didn't quite feel finished. Over months I added to it and finally finished it last fall. I sat on it for a bit wondering how and when I wanted to release it, but eventually after listening to it on cold and gloomy morning knew it was the right soundtrack for a winter day, so I decided to get it out before it was too late.

I hope you enjoy the journey it takes you on and you can find some space to be while listening to it. If you're interested in the gear, you can watch [this livestream](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKGWVLv-kek) of me performing 3 of the 4 movements, where you can see my Moogs and modular rack better. I'm happy to answer any questions about how I made this piece, so feel free to ask!
