Beretta 92: Clone Wars
Anyone using these? What is your take on your piece? How do they compare to the original?
Original.
- Taurus (Brazil)
- Model: Taurus PT92
- The Difference: Taurus is unique because it isn't just a "copycat." In 1980, Beretta finished a contract for the Brazilian military and sold its entire São Paulo factory—including the machinery, tooling, and blueprints—to Taurus.
- Key Change: Many shooters actually prefer the Taurus because it features a frame-mounted safety/decocker (similar to the original 1970s Beretta design) rather than the slide-mounted safety found on modern Beretta 92FS models.
2. Girsan (Turkey)
- Model: Girsan Regard MC (Imported by EAA)
- The Difference: Girsan produces one of the most popular modern clones. It is a NATO-approved sidearm used by Turkish law enforcement.
- Key Features: It is almost parts-interchangeable with the Beretta 92FS. It often includes modern upgrades like a MIL-STD-1913 accessory rail and various finishes (Inox, FDE, and even gold/white) at a significantly lower price point than the original.
3. Derya Arms (Turkey)
- Model: Derya Melik
- The Difference: A newer entrant to the U.S. market, the Melik is a "mil-spec" variant that mimics the traditional look of the 92FS/M9 rather than the modernized A3 or A4 variants. It has gained attention for its high-quality finish and aggressive pricing.
4. American Tactical / MKE (Turkey)
- Model: ATI C92
- The Difference: Produced by MKE (the state-owned arms company of Turkey) and imported by ATI. MKE uses original Beretta tooling to manufacture these, making them technically very accurate to the original dimensions.
