Planning Around Wildfires

Heading out to Montana in late June for a wedding. My dad is flying in after that, and we've got a full day booked with an outfitter in Missoula. I have plotted a few other days of exploring that include climbs to some alpine lakes and some smaller creek hopping. This is our first trip out west, and we're super excited.

However, I'm getting nervous seeing some news about low snowpack in the west and people catastrophizing about wildfires. I do not have a plane ticket yet. The AirBnb has free cancellation. The outfitter is still within free cancel territory.

How likely is it that I'll want to use these cancellations? Are there any adjustments I could make to my trip or potential adjustments that could be stored as contingency?

Any and all advice on this would be seriously appreciated. I'm getting a feeling of pre-disappointment that I do not enjoy.

Signed,

A Michigander not used to this crap
