The Fathership: Jesus is like God’s spaceship.
The Mothership
The term “mothership” in regard to science fiction stories has been ingrained in the collective unconscious of humanity starting probably since the pulp era of science fiction (maybe even earlier). We’ve all probably seen a movie or two about alien invasions and how they travel to earth in a mothership. There’s usually two opposite stereotypes: 1) they come in peace or 2) they come waging war.
The Grand Delusion
Imagine that the aliens we’ve seen in the movies were actually demons, and in the end times unbelievers were going to get tricked into thinking aliens were the ones coming in peace to save humanity and that Jesus was some unknown threat/invader coming to kill us all.
Well, I think that’s probably going to happen. I think it’s part of the grand delusion the Bible talks about. I mean who could possibly think it's a good idea to challenge God knowing that He is all-powerful? But what if they didn't think they were challenging God?
I Come in Peace
It’s not the aliens (demons) who come in peace, it’s Jesus who comes in peace. Jesus already came in peace one time, but the world crucified him.
Take Me to Your Leader
And as a side note just for fun, in the movies, the aliens always want to be taken to the leader of the free world. I think it's funny how Jesus is literally the Leader of the entire cosmos. Even the demons recognized Jesus' authority when Jesus walked the earth. Jesus is the King of kings and the Prince of Peace.
End Times War
I’m not sure the order of things regarding the rapture and the end times war, but Jesus is definitely coming back to wage war against the evil in the world. Jesus is coming back like a warring chariot, a warship if you will.
Swing Low, Sweet Chariot
Now regarding the name of the post, I came up with the term “Fathership” to capture the general idea of a spaceship. It came to me after thinking about Jesus being like God’s chariot. There’s an old African-American song called “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot.” Some of the lyrics go “Swing low, sweet chariot, Coming for to carry me home…”
Follow the Leader
Jesus is coming back for his followers, for those who love him. Let's keep following Jesus with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
Arrival
We’re all going to see Jesus in the clouds.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 says “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.”
Beam Me Up Holy Spirit!
Forget about the mothership, Christians are getting beamed up to the Fathership! Don’t get fooled into thinking Jesus is the invader. Jesus is not the invader; He is the Savior.
