Start A New Channel Or Use Old Channel With Existing Views
Hey everyone, I have a bit of a weird one.
So I have a few channels, my main one and then my side "shitposting" one has 10 videos with 15k subs. Out of those 10 videos, one has around 9 mil views and still gets views to this day - but I consider it slop content (not AI slop, it was posted 6 years ago, it's just a low effort meme type video). The other has 1.6 mil views from 6 years ago but it doesn't get traction anymore.
The other 8 videos I'm fairly proud of, 5 from around 3 years ago and a few more from 1 year ago all on less than 10k views (some less than 100). Those were higher effort videos that I stand by to this day.
I now want to get back into content creation after about a year off. I've made a new video and have more in the pipeline. My plan was to create a new fresh slate channel to upload to. The first video did well for a first - 20 views, 17% CTR. But there has been a lingering question for me - do I keep going on the new channel or just repurpose my old one?
Here are my current thoughts on the pros and cons but I would love everyone's opinions.
New Channel:
Pros:
- Fresh start.
- New audience.
- Views undeniably come from genuine engagement.
Cons:
-
No monetization (not an issue with only 1 video but something to consider)
-
No backlog of those 8 videos I am proud of.
Repurposing old channel:
Pros:
- Consistent viewer base coming in from viral video (not topic specific so double edged sword, could fuck up discovery)
- Established subscriber count (not important from an algorithm perspective but people tend to trust channels with more subscribers and are more likely to watch)
- No uploads in a long time, could be considered a blank slate by algorithm (?)
Cons:
- Existing "audience" could mess up discovery of new content
- Could be confusing for new viewers
