Maybe this advice is unwanted? But I am new to this sub and was really surprised to see all the posts about Capital One being stingy with increasing credit lines.

I don’t know if I figured out all the tricks — but thought I’d share my experience on how I increased my CL by $4,000 in 2 years.

First, I did get approved for a great credit line right away. $5,000. Quicksilver was my very first credit card ever. I think I was approved for that high because 1. I have no debt except for my mortgage (which I have never been late on) 2. Good credit score: at the time I was at about 750 3. I make decent income, but nothing crazy insane. It was about 90k in 2024.

I’ve requested increases each year as I get a raise and always been approved. I just barely requested $9,000 and was approved. Up from $7,000 last year.

Again, I have no idea the exact reasons why. But here are my guesses?

1. I have never ever missed a payment (I just have the card pull straight from my checking accounts with weekly auto payments). I only use it on my daily expenses — like groceries etc. And I try to pay close attention that I don’t take more than 10%. There have only been a handful of times where it has been more.

2. My income increased. Again, not exponentially though. Now making just a bit over 100k.

3. My credit score increased to 800. I did not do anything special for this aside from what I mentioned above. Never being late on a payment. I have not opened any other credit accounts aside from my mortgage and this credit card.

Again, I haven’t read enough to see if people are doing the same thing as me and still not getting approved. Wondering if others are seeing the same as me?
