Annoyance/mild rage when people ask me about my day…

General Question/Discussion

I’ve noticed that being asked about my day makes me feel a low level internal simmering rage.

When my partner asks “what do you have going on today?” Or “what are your plans for the day?” I want to stomp my foot and leave the room.

When my child asks “what did you do today?” I want to tell him to mind his own business.

I *know* they are asking out of care and curiosity and love and wanting to connect.

I *feel* like they are asking me to validate my existence.

They are not. I know this. I know they love me. I know they are just showing their love and care.

I *feel* like they are being bossy jerks.

It seems like this is related to the ADHD bc truthfully, I don’t often have a plan for my day. And in general my plans feel fairly mundane and routine and not like anything I need to talk about- talking about them makes them feel even MORE mundane and routine.

At the end of the day, I struggle to feel like I’ve lived up to my potential or my goals. So trying to come up with something to share about what I did makes me feel like a loser. I *know* I’m not a loser. The question makes me *feel* like a loser. Again, feels like an ADHD thing to be unable to account for what happened during a day.

Yes- I could theoretically tell people not to ask me these questions. But that makes me feel stupid. Like “oh I can’t even handle being asked simple, polite, kind questions.”

Any others feel this?

I do take meds (Focalin ER) and do therapy. It helps with many things, but it’s this kind of thing that seems less helped.
