Started my candle business with what I already had

When I decided to start my candle making business from home, I had no fancy equipment, and no clear business plan. I just had a strong desire to create something of my own and provide for my family in a meaningful way.

Everything I needed was already sitting in my house. I'd collected candle making supplies over the years from previous hobbies and craft projects. Wax, wicks, fragrance oils, molds, all of it was just waiting in boxes in my garage. I didn't realize at the time that I'd been unknowingly preparing for this moment.

I started small, making batches late at night after my kids went to bed. I experimented with scents and designs until I found combinations I was truly proud of. For packaging, I couldn't afford custom boxes or professional labels, so I hand wrapped each candle in simple brown paper, tied it with twine, and added a handwritten thank you note to every order. My signature touch became adding a Bic lighter to each delivery. My husband had ordered a bulk pack from alibaba for household use, and we had way more than needed. Customers absolutely loved this thoughtful detail and it gave it this premium touch.

There were moments I wanted to quit when orders were slow. But I kept showing up, believing it would work. It did. Repeat customers came back.
