Mortgage Check Payment

Has anyone tried to pay for a mortgage using the check option? I have had multiple failed attempts using the ACH details provided and I have a small test payment I submitted through Bilt that is pending completion. So far these are huge roadblocks vs tiny hiccups in my opinion. Just for additional detail my mortgage is with PennyMac.
