Why even the easiest task can feel impossible some days

💡 Advice

If you're like me, you procrastinate on some of the easiest work projects, but you just scrolled Instagram for 40 minutes without even trying haha

Lucky us, that's not a discipline problem.

Your brain runs on one rule: if a reward feels close, do it.

Instagram puts a reward three seconds away. Every scroll might show you something good. So your brain says: keep going.

A big project puts the reward weeks away. No clear payoff in sight. So starting feels like pushing a boulder uphill.

Same brain. Same person. The only difference is how far away the reward is.

Your brain only wants to do things that pay off soon.

So all you need to change is which rewards can reach you and when.

What I learned and what helps me tremendously:

  1. Your morning sets the bar. Cheap dopamine early makes your brain chase it all day. Hard-lock distracting apps for your first 60-90 minutes.
  2. Start a focus timer before deep work. Your brain starts chasing the pride you feel when the timer ends regardless of the task. Do this enough and it begs for more.
  3. Schedule hard-locks during work hours. When your brain knows Instagram isn't available, it stops comparing. Work becomes the closest reward by default.

Hope this helps some of you
