Jay and Tyra beef (from the doc)

Jay's side of the story from the doc is basically that were best friends and super close, then when he wanted to leave the show he emailed Tyra about it, she took 3 days to respond and only said "I am disappointed". Then he was convinced by the executives to come back for one more season where it then became clear that he and Tyra would act normally together while on camera but off camera he wasn't allowed to speak to her. Then he stayed on for another 10 cycles before he was fired along with Nigel and Miss Jay.

He mentions his book which from some light research seems like an angry expose thinly veiled as fiction in which he is the protagonist good guy and Tyra is the awful antagonist. In the doc Tyra refuses to speak about him and says she doesn't want to address anything but that she should call him.

I feel like i'm missing something here? Their communication about him wanting to leave seems a little weird for besties. I get having a paper trail since it's work and whatnot but he made it seem like the email was him communicating his thoughts about leaving to her and not an official resignation letter. And then she only said that she was disappointed and then basically never talked to him again outside of the show for a decade?? Jay clearly seems angry and bitter about her to this day and tbh I don't blame him if that's really how it went down.

I'm kind of confused and was hoping someone who followed the show while it was airing could share some insight.
