fl studio workflow - 1 beat per day vs 1 beat per week approach
trying to figure out which workflow structure actually improves fl studio skills faster. both have specific advantages but im not sure which builds better long term habits.
daily beat approach in fl
open fl studio every morning, finish and export one complete beat before bed. focus is on speed and removing friction from the creative process.
workflow benefits i noticed:
pattern window became second nature. i stopped overthinking drum placement and just felt the grid. piano roll shortcuts became muscle memory - ctrl+b, shift+up, ctrl+l actually automatic now.
mixer routing got way faster. sending patterns to mixer tracks, setting up sidechain, adding effects. all of this became instant instead of searching through menus.
stock plugins became comfortable. i learned what parametric eq 2 can actually do instead of reaching for third party stuff every time. same with fruity limiter and maximus.
problems that showed up:
mixing suffered because i rushed it. most beats had muddy low end because i didnt take time to properly eq and compress. arrangement was repetitive - 8 bar loop, some variations, outro. nothing creative structurally.
weekly perfection approach in fl
spend full week on one beat. day 1-2 is composition in piano roll and pattern window. day 3-4 is arrangement in playlist and automation clips. day 5-6 is mixing in mixer window with proper routing and effects. day 7 is final master and export.
quality benefits i noticed:
mixing actually sounds professional. taking time to properly use parametric eq 2, cutting mud around 200-400hz, using multiband compression correctly. bass and 808s sit in the mix instead of fighting.
arrangement uses automation clips properly. volume automation, filter sweeps, effect sends. the playlist actually has structure with builds and drops not just loop copy paste.
stock plugins get pushed to their limits. learning what you can do with layers, voicings, processing. fruity reverb 2 can sound expensive if you take time to adjust it.
problems that showed up:
workflow gets slower between projects. when i finally start the next beat i have to remember where things are. shortcuts dont feel automatic anymore.
which approach actually makes you better at using fl studio efficiently while also producing quality output? or is it a phase thing where you grind daily first then switch to weekly?
