Thinkpad vs gaming laptop
Hi all, just wanted some advice as I'm getting my first laptop for uni and can't make my mind up about something. So I just need a laptop for normal everyday use, maybe some emulator gaming with gba, ps1-2, and uni stuff, where I'm gonna be doing some programming and stuff related to cybersecurity and data science, so I ordered a thinkpad e14 gen 6 with the following specs for 1399 aud:
Processor AMD Ryzen™ 5 7535HS Processor (3.30 GHz up to 4.55 GHz) - selected upgrade Operating System Windows 11 Home 64 Microsoft Productivity Software No Microsoft Office Memory 32 GB DDR5-4800MT/s (SODIMM) - (2 x 16 GB) - selected upgrade First Solid State Drive 512 GB SSD M.2 2242 PCIe Gen4 TLC Opal - selected upgrade Display 14" WUXGA (1920 x 1200), IPS, Anti-Glare, Non-Touch, 45%NTSC, 300 nits, 60Hz Graphics Card Integrated Graphics Camera 720P HD RGB with Microphone and Privacy Shutter Color Graphite Black Wireless Realtek Wi-Fi 6 RTL8852BE 2x2 AX & Bluetooth® 5.1 or above Ethernet Wired Ethernet Fingerprint Reader No Fingerprint Reader Keyboard Backlit, Black - English (US) - selected upgrade Battery 3 Cell Rechargeable Li-ion 57Wh - selected upgrade Power Cord 65W USB-C Low Cost 90% PCC 3pin AC Adapter - ANZ Preload McAfee Setting None Warranty 1 Year Courier or Carry-in
but my friend is telling me to cancel the order and get a gaming laptop instead, cause I can get better specs for a similar price with the addition of a dedicated gpu and just use it for normal stuff as well. I can see where he's coming from but I still have doubts about how the gaming laptop is gonna perform battery wise even when not gaming, and the reliability in the future compared to thinkpad which i assume is a bit more durable and can fare better long term. He also mentioned that with better specs the gaming laptops are gonna be more future proof with changing software and it seems like a valid point, but the main thing I'd like to know is how do gaming laptops fare with normal everyday tasks like coding and browsing compared to the thinkpad i ordered and whether its worth it to cancel the order and heed his advice. I can give specifics about the gaming laptops he's recommending if it helps, Thanks.
