Some issues I’ve experienced playing with random squads

DISCUSSION

Maybe I take the game too seriously, but here are the issues I’ve experienced playing with random squads. Before anyone says “that’s why I only play with my friends” or tell me to do so, I don’t have any friends who play Fortnite. Literally none. Some people really just want to play casually with strangers that also love the game. Zero strings attached.

I played solo for the first two or three months that I started playing Fortnite, but eventually I realized I like playing with teams more after giving it a chance. It’s just fun to explore the map with others and try to win together. I know everyone’s playing style is different, but when it comes squads I feel like there are unwritten rules or some sort of unspoken creed.

Now, I’ve had GREAT team players before, but they’re rare. I appreciate those players so much because it really livens the experience of what Fortnite should (and could) be.

The issues I’ve experienced:

- Squad members don’t follow the marked locations that are planted. Sometimes even the person who marked a location ends up going off somewhere else. I usually follow the first marker or assign one myself if no one else does. It’s not a huge deal because you can meet up again, but I just don’t get it.

- When injured, I try my best to revive teammates as soon as I can. I know certain situations dictate one’s ability to help, but I’ve had others completely ignore me as I roll towards them in a safe spot or roll into a safe location inside a building. I will never leave a match and will wait to be revived, but sometimes watching others play it’s very clear they don’t care to help. And, of course, you also see some players harvesting gold and completely bypassing good opportunities to use the reboot van.

- My first goal in a match is always to get enough gold in case we get ambushed. I literally seek out as many chests as I can. This should be everyone’s goal, especially if your squad members are getting blasted quickly and are 900 meters away. By the way, if you land somewhere far away, don’t ping nearby enemies. I can’t save you.

- When I see that my squad members are low on energy or shields, I throw any extras I have at them. Most of the time, they ignore them and just start running away. I don’t get it. This has happened so often that I’m truly puzzled by it. I’m always thankful when someone sees that I’m barely hanging on and they throw a jar of slurp my way. I don’t get how people run around knowing one shot will take them out, even by a bot.

- Fighting over weapons is a weird issue I’ve seen. In one match I had a player follow me around for a long time and when I would open a chest, they would collect all the stuff (or try) before I could do anything. It got to the point that it was making me aggressive and not wanting to help them. Also, fighting in general. Why are some of you trying to constantly hit me with a car? 😭

There are other issues I have, but these come to mind first. **Am I** taking the game too seriously? I just want to relax and have fun, but there are certain standards that playing with a team has. Any thoughts here?
