LoS and Weapon Range

Tip

I've flaired this as a tip but would like to hear others opinions too. I've seen discussions where people feel the AI should "stand and fight." There's even a mod for it I believe now. However, making the AI ignore LoS does not fix this nor do I think LoS is the problem. You can test it right now by overextending a lone squad. The AI will "stand and fight" and bring in additional units to kill that squad, even on missions where the objective is to kill a # of enemy units. The AI doesn't care that you can see them because it thinks it can win that engagement.

Enemies skirting LoS is what leads to the enemy surprise flanking you or ambushing you. It's what makes the Redacted skirmishers so frustrating, as they should be. LoS does not need fixed. You can do the same thing the AI does, a crossed out eye next to a squads armor/health bar will show if your unit hasn't been spotted. It goes away if that squad is spotted even if you can't see the unit spotting your squad; its particularly noticeable against Rogue Army since they have dedicated scouts.

An entirely seperate issue that does need fixed is enemies knowing the range of concealed squads. The player does not have this ability, and neither should the AI. However, the AI should (and does) still skirt weapon ranges of spotted squads as the player can as well. If you mouse over an enemy unit, a red line appears around them marking their max range.

The AI already behaves pretty intelligently aside from when the player tries to exploit its nuances. The AI is not meta gaming when it avoids LoS; it is most often avoiding a fight it can't win or hiding from forces with the sole objective of killing the enemy. It is also not meta gaming anymore than the player when it stays outside your max range. Why would the enemy walk into guns they can see?

If I have misunderstood any system feel free to correct me.The AI's behavior seems to be dependent on player unit comp; so I know other players may have different experiences and in turn different opinions from mine.
