Do I need cash in Paris ?

I’m visiting Paris soon and wondering about payments. I’m not very comfortable carrying a lot of cash. Is it really necessary, or do most restaurants, cafés, and souvenir shops accept credit cards these days? Just trying to plan ahead. Thanks!
