Re training through workers comp?
Hi folks,
35yr old looking for an idea of what to expect out of my current situation.
I herniated a couple of disks in my back at the start of 2025 whilst at work. I have had multiple cortizone injections and finally a microdisectomy / laminectomy. Surgery provided relief but im still in pain after any sort of activity. Surgeon sent me for a post surgery mri a couple of weeks ago due to the rather poor recovery. Results show no compression of the nerves but scar tissue. Which explains my symptoms down the leg.
Anyway.
My job is or was very physical. The surgeon has told me and has written in his report that it would be a bad idea for me to return to my job.
I'm currently doing 3hrs a day sitting in the office scanning the occasional document. It makes my leg hurt but I need the money.
What are my options for retraining, is it even an option or will they just turn me into a receptionist?
The company is fairly large but i work in a small specialised section, in a small town away from the main office. I have no formal training and limited skills that transfer else where in the company. I was earning approx 150k pre tax which where I live seems to be reserved for university qualified people.
What do I do?
Sorry for the rambling, it's 2am and I can't sleep because my future seems so fucked.
Edit: I have recently signed on a lawyer to help me through the workers comp side of it.
