why does my cat keep waking me up so she can stare at me

my cat has started doing this thing where when im asleep she squeaks in my ear and climbs on me. she sometimes bats at my face but mostly she just squeaks. I thought it was so I could feed her, but once she knows im up she stops and just sits and stares at me. she doesnt squeak or beg for food she just wakes me up so she can sit next to me and stare. why is she doing this
