Kraven, the last hunter triggers

Tagged as "bug" but probably I'm misunderstanding something.

Was reading up on Kraven yesterday before sliding in my deck and saw a couple people on Reddit confused about his trigger based on Arena play and replies from people who play paper saying it was either a bug or they missed something.

Well.. I'm on like game 2 with kraven and this happens: Nowhere to Run eliminates opponents top creature, sent to the graveyard. No trigger on Kraven. I'm thinking huh... That's weird. The creature died, I expected a trigger, but maybe it was a state-based action thing because of the -3/-3.

Well, 2 turns later I play Sandman's Quicksand which gives -2/-2 and the opponents highest power creature (which had been dealt damage in combat as well), died in the same fashion - this time hitting the trigger.

I'm just not understanding why one and not the other. I'm thinking about gaming this card in paper, but I can't reasonably do that if I'm misunderstanding his interactions.
