2016 Lamps - LED? Halogen?

Very confused here. It’s my understanding I cannot put in LED bulbs, beams or fogs without a conversion kit. Correct? I don’t think I wanna go that route, but would love a higher wattage more capable stock-replaceable bulb to upgrade. Advice?
