Do You Fast?
I am Catholic and my wife is Pentecostal. We had a discussion on the practice of Fasting recently, because, in my denomination, we are entering the season of Lent.
Her church will Fast regularly throughout the year at various times as a whole congregation and individual members taking personal Fasts as they see fit. Fasting for her usually entails no food at all until sunset with water being optional only if you are in a profession that is mentally or physically demanding. Spare/free time is directed towards prayer and scripture reading.
When dating my now wife, I was happy to hear that her church did! I was unaware of Fasting outside of my denomination as a Catholic. I’m curious to know how wide spread this is in other Protestant churches. Do you Fast? Does your church Fast as a collective? How often does it occur and what does it entail?
Of course, HEAVY emphasis here on Mathew 6. No boasting about your Fasting or trying to be holier than thou in your devotions. I am just genuinely curious what Fasting looks like for you!
