My roommate and I are hosting a Chess-Darts tournament in the spirit of Chess-Boxing, would love feedback.

Miscellaneous

A couple weeks ago my roommate and I had an idea to host a small Chess-Darts tournament in the spirit of Chess-Boxing, but with no one getting punched(hopefully!). The idea is pretty simple, 10 minute timers for chess, 4 potential rounds of darts every 5 minutes(starting with darts) where you're simply trying to score as many points as possible. Win by checkmate, reaching a point goal in darts(we're thinking 250, the idea is for it to be hard to reach but not impossible), or if neither happens the points leader wins.

No one in my friend group is particularly good at either Chess or Darts so the rules I wrote up are catered towards casual players, but could be tweaked for more advanced players. I wanted to share the idea for anyone who might find it interesting, and also seek feedback if I should adjust anything(like the point total for winning in darts). Most importantly, these rules are intended to create a fun party game, not be a hyper-competitive tournament. Here's what I wrote up:

Chess-dart rules

-10 minute personal chess timers

-5 minute rounds of chess, game starts with a round of darts, with another round of darts at the end of each round of chess. 3 darts per player per round.

-4 potential darts rounds, with a bonus round* awarded if your opponent runs out of time in chess. The player who runs out of time doesn't throw in this round.

-Throw for closest to Bulls to decide who throws first(closest player chooses), player who scores higher in round 1 plays the white pieces in chess.

-During the darts rounds, each player will throw 3 darts, with the player with less time on their chess clock throwing first.

*The bonus round will award you 1 dart if your timer is under 1 minute, 2 darts if your timer is 1+ minutes, and 3 darts if your timer is 2+ minutes. A 4th dart will be awarded if your timer has 5+ minutes remaining, to prevent tanking your timer.

Three potential win conditions:

-Checkmating your opponent in chess

-Reaching 250 points in darts

-Point total, if neither happens, and one player runs out of time on their chess clock, the other player throws their bonus darts and whoever has more points after will be declared the winner. A stalemate in chess will award no bonus darts, and the point leader will be declared the winner. Single dart tie breaker if needed.

Let me know your thoughts!
