Wire eating rodents?

Question

I took my car to the dealership (it’s still under warranty) yesterday because the check engine light is on and the temperature on the dashboard is flashing (with no reading).

They told me that the temperature sensor wiring has been chewed by rodents. They want either $500 to splice the wires, no guarantee it will fix it if there’s unseen damage anywhere else, or $4500 to take out the entire harness and replace it…

Then they gave me option 3, sell them the car as is and get a different one because the warranty is almost up… I think I have 1 year left on my payment plan. I’m not emotionally attached to the car. I just don’t know what the best option is here.

The dealership said this has been a common problem this year, but this is my 4th vehicle I’ve owned in the city and this has never happened. Am I being duped???

TLDR: dealership said rodents chewed the wiring under my car. Are they yanking my chain?
