What's the difference? Is there one??

My mother was supposed to spend a week with a group of ladies at a resort, but left four days early because one woman got mad about something that happened there and lashed out at everyone else.

Also my mom: perfectly comfortable going to a church where she's been mistreated by the members in the past, sees nothing wrong with having to warn me to be on the lookout for them mistreating me because of their dislike for her. AND YET the very next sentence out of her mouth after warning me is "but even if they do, I'm not going to use that as an excuse to leave this church".

Wtf is the difference?? The women she went on the retreat with professed Christianity too, I've seen her break away from people for much less serious reasons that have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with mom directly,, like a person swears, or wears more revealing clothes than mom is comfortable with
