INFP Games to Play

Good morning.

Just finally got back to finishing Slime Rancher 2 after it reached 1.0 and it struck me that you fine people would enjoy the dopamine surge that is this series as much as I have.

Its a very chill game and you can make it more chill without Tarr problems. The core game loop is a platformer style game where you spend your time capturing different slimes, corralling them, feeding them and selling their "plorts" which they poop out on the market. Feeding one base slime a different slimes plort makes them a hybrid between the two, but if they eat another different plot, they'll become a Tarr and actively eat other slimes and you. Water blows them up. You wield a vacuum pack that sucks up and blows out anything small enough to fit, and allows you pick up and fire away any items that are much bigger.

The story continues with Slime Rancher 2 with some new slimes and a different story that seems to build a little off the first. They are both gorgeously rendered worlds with fairly simple puzzles to solve that open up gates and teleporters. End of the game does have drones to automate things, but the process remains mostly manual "ranching" using the vac pack. There's no time limit and every new thing you unlock leads you to new places and new unlocks all the way up to the end.

There are lots of helpful places with info online for maps or a wiki to figure out what some items do, but the "slimepedia" in game gives you a lot of info if you remember to check it.

Beyond this series, I also love Ori and the Blind Forest but its significantly more challenging as a side scroller (metroidvania) and survival games like Raft also feel like they sort of tickle the same INFP vibe, but in a different way. Where Slime Rancher is always incredibly upbeat or wistful, Ori pulls you in with connection and hope despite death. Raft gives you an "all who wander aren't lost, but I sure am" feeling and sometimes at night or in a storm, it can feel like "sure you're lost, but its going to be ok".

Just wanted to offer these ideas in these dark times for a nice escape from reality in the best ways we know how. :D
