Considering learning mouse and keyboard.. how brutal is the learning curve?

My aim is just total dogshit sometimes as a controller player. I will lose a gunfight 6/10 times vs a good strafer and I just can't keep track of them and over/under commit resulting in missing my shots.

Is switching to mouse and keyboard and suffering for god knows how long the key to improve?

I know what I'm doing wrong on controller, but man I'm having such a tough time correcting it.
