What if Napoleon Bonaparte struggled during the initial campaigns?

In this scenario, Napoleon's army, mostly ill-equipped forces, proved to struggle even under his charismatic, intelligent leadership, leading Napoleon to shift his priorities to the home front instead of the European theatre, maintaining a defensive stance against the coalition forces. This turns out to be an extremely costly affair with little to no gain for the coalition forces, which soon fall apart. Napoleon still crowns himself, aligns with Spain, and invades Italy, but that's about it. Instead, his focus shifts to colonial conquest, mainly India and the East Indies.

The UK, at this point, frankly had enough of the continent and went into hibernation with her massive Commonwealth. As the War of 1812 erupts, without Napoleon going haywire in Europe, the UK brings her absolute might to the doorstep of the United States, absolutely humiliating the latter and giving massive territorial concessions to Canada. The Spanish Empire falls apart with a stagnating economy, as it did in OTL. The Mexican Empire soon dominates North America as her massive agricultural base becomes a hub for the industrialized North America. The USA shifts her priorities to building up and militarizing her society, with a deep, constant fear of the British coming back to reclaim the thirteen colonies becoming a nightmare for the American people, culminating in forming a strong anti-British stance and rapid militarization, giving little to no money to the business sectors. Several Indigenous cultures are given autonomy as an agreement with Mexico and the USA.

Prussia unifies Germany but is stopped at the Rhineland by the French forces. With the failure at unifying Germany, the Prussian government is overthrown in a fit of rage by the German populace, giving way to a popular revolution across the German region, threatening the stability of the region and France. Russia intervenes. A united front is formed with the German region and Austria, turning the situation into a complete mess of conflicts, dubbed the Great European War. In the end, France is defeated after years of trench warfare due to exhaustion, and Russia succumbs to a revolution. Austria, despite being on the winning side, collapses, with only a new unified Spartacus Germany being the clear winner, albeit hardly.

The French Empire is embroiled in a new revolution, with the Bonaparte house going into exile in Algeria. A Second Republic is constructed with shaky democracy. Britain, what are you doing? Nothing much? Okay...

The Ottoman Empire collapses; France and the UK carve it up. India is also split between France and the UK, but as the incident occurs where imprisoned Indian National Congress leaders are beaten to death by police in custody, the nation is furious as they launch an armed uprising. In the end, France and the UK recognize the Indian Republic but still occupy large regions, as the young Republic is unable to do much without proper leadership. India, despite being independent, is nothing more than a joint vassal state for the empires, as the companies dominate the nation.

As the 1930s approach, a new pact between Spartacus Germany and the Soviet Union to divide Europe between them shakes the world. Soon enough, a war between the Communist elements and the Joint Anglo-French pact leads to a Second World War.

As the French Republic struggles, Philippe Pétain stages a coup against the government to continue the fight but is soon counter-couped by Charles De Gaulle, who invites the house of Bonaparte, Louis-Napoleon, back to France as a President, not a monarch, to oversee the civilian sector and gain some sort of legitimacy and rejuvenate the populace.

The Communists are defeated, Russia is absolutely struck by the Treaty of Warsaw, and Germany is divided between France and... Poland? Poland emerges from the war as a regional power, as the UK propped up the eastern liberated nations under a military-economic union to stop France from further dominating Eastern Europe.

China? A Republic of China under Wang Jingwei and a Military Republic heavily influenced by Japanese corporations and left-wing elements sit in the North.

The year is 1981. France and Britain stand as the global superpowers, as the threat of a resurgent China, America, Russia, and India threatens the globe. De Gaulle and Bonaparte seem destined for confrontation with each other for the future of France and the world. Germany struggles as the people are torn apart. Japan waits patiently for their time to strike Asia as a good opportunity comes. Mexico and Latin America want nothing to do with the old world. Africa, Asia, and the Middle East cry for freedom as their pleas go unheard. Poland pledges to protect the Eastern Bloc from any and all threats.

The twilight of the empire is upon us. Time will tell not if but when the glory of the old order will crumble under its own weight.
