Geopolitical knowledge for someone preparing for the Armed Forces

I am preparing to join the Armed Forces (CDS, SSC W Tech and AFCAT flying branch). I am reading the material relevant for the exams and following up on current affairs. Are there any geopolitical issues and history that I should be aware of, as an Armed Forces aspirant? Are there any recommended books to read?
