question about Death Penalty

im a christian and i just want to know (idk if its political or not) but like, should a christian support it? because for example, wouldnt it be better, for someone to be imprisioned and have the chance to repent, instead of they just dying without repenting, there are many stories of people repenting in prison, even if they got life sentence, wouldnt it be better?
