I tested 10 famous websites for AI readiness — Tesla scored 0/100, Apple scored 87. Built the tool, launched it, 0 sales so far. What am I doing wrong?
I built an AI Readiness Score tool — it checks how well websites are prepared for ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews.
I tested 10 major sites and the results were honestly surprising:
🟢 Apple — 87/100
🟢 Stripe — 82/100
🟡 GitHub — 76/100
🟡 BBC — 68/100
🟡 OpenAI — 64/100
🟡 Wikipedia — 62/100
🟡 Spotify — 58/100
🔴 Netflix — 41/100
🔴 Amazon — 22/100
🔴 Tesla — 0/100
Yes, Tesla scores zero. They block every AI bot. Amazon barely scores above 20. And OpenAI — the company behind ChatGPT — only scores 64.
The tool checks 6 things: AI bot access (15 bots), structured data, content structure, meta tags, accessibility, and security headers. Then Claude AI generates personalized recommendations.
I built it from scratch (Node.js + Express + Claude API), launched it on Gumroad and Lemon Squeezy for $29 as a source code kit, posted on IndieHackers, Twitter, LinkedIn...
And so far: 0 sales.
The demo gets good reactions. People try it, say it's cool, and leave. Nobody buys.
I'm starting to think maybe the real value isn't in selling the source code, but in the free tool itself — using it to generate leads for SEO consulting or agency services.
Honest questions for this community:
- Is $29 too much? Too little? Wrong pricing model entirely?
- Would this work better as a freemium SaaS ($9/mo for unlimited checks)?
- Has anyone here pivoted from "sell the code" to "sell the service"?

Roast me, advise me, anything helps. I'd rather hear the hard truth now than keep pushing in the wrong direction.
