Do I legally have to open my window / door if a cop is knocking

Just curious

- I am in USA

- how do I know if a Knock is a cop or not? I’m assuming they announce police, but even then an intruder could fake that.

- just concerned with safety but also following the rules.

- not in my van yet, just thinking through the ‘what can go wrong’
