New Grade 7 - constantly anxious and I hate it
I will say I obviously have broader anxiety problems, not caused by work, however they were really under control before I moved to this role.
I’m 6 months into this role working on a fast paced change programme.
I’m struggling because I don’t have much background in this area (the role is technically within my profession but with a change programme it really stretches beyond that) or the department so I feel like I’m constantly double checking everything and don’t have my own clear opinion or steer on things.
I’m working in a lot of ambiguity which I thought I’d be more comfortable with but the pace of change makes it much more difficult than I imagined.
I feel like I never get anything done and just keep learning about problems and fire fighting. Even tiny errors in wording seem to cause big problems and I’m second guessing everything I do.
I feel like I’m still a HEO sometimes with the amount I’m relying on my manager and other colleagues but it’s expected to be a leadership grade. I don’t manage a team luckily so don’t have to worry about that.
My manager hasn’t raised any performance issues yet but I feel like it’s coming.
Anyone had similar experience in a new G7 role? How do you cope when you do get things wrong, especially when external or senior stakeholders are involved?
