Kobo mini e reader

Hello I recently got my grandfather's kobo and have been desperately struggling to try to get it to work. I can't afford a new kobo and I like the mini, whenever I contact costumer support they first tell me to get a new one which isn't in my budget. How can I fix my mini ? I've made an account I've tried WiFi and I've tried to computer app, is there a way to bypass the whole login part or an application that could help me skip the setup ? Oh and also my computer can tell it's there and so does caliber. I don't mind installing an app to get rid of the whole login in process I just need help
