Can't believe how much toxicity I missed out on as a kid
I still enjoy reading this series when I need something simple and nostalgic but seriously, the older I've gotten the more I've realized how truly toxic the girls' dynamic is. I would even go so far as to say that, if the club didn't exist, they would not consider each other friends. The way they mistreated Mallory when she first joined, and just the overall way the older members look down on Mal and Jessi for being younger than them... it's not a good lesson to be teaching impressionable kids. Kristy's dictatorship over the club, her obsession with exact punctuality, her over the top professionalism... add that to her blatant jealousy of Dawn, her constant personality clashes with Abby, who tbh I don't like all that much but Kristy was still very unfair to her 99% of the time, the way she talks down to Mary Anne for being shy and crying a lot... she's both a terrible leader and a terrible friend. Finally, Claudia and Stacey. They are very entitled and would be typical middle school mean girls if not for the club. Also, geez, these girls need to stop forgiving Stacey. She has looked down on them, called them immature, and abandoned them multiple times. The only one who shouldn't be acting all high and mighty towards her is Claudia who lowkey acts the exact same way but is a lot better at hiding it. Anyway, that's my take. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk lmao!!
