has anyone cut over their tattoos, and how differently does it heal or behave?

I really want to get a sleeve some day but am not ready nor do I think I'll ever drop self harm and cutting as a coping mechanism so I'm just wondering what would happen if I cut over tattooed skin. I'm aware the skin will split in that part just as regular skin does when you cut but just how much damage is actually done to the tattoo that way and when the scar fades can you just get a re-touch? I'm sorry if that was a weird question I just can't picture it in my head clearly so it's been bugging me for some time now. I will remove the post if anyone is offended by the question.
