Arrowhead does not understand their playerbase
I genuinely believe that whatever idea Arrowhead has about their playerbase is drastically different from the reality of it. It really seems like they believe the majority of players understand the galactic war mechanics and this is one of the two major reasons I believe that Cyberstan should've been handled very differently.
Firstly, the reinforcement budget. Everyone’s jabbed at this now and for good reason. Arrowhead had absolutely ZERO reason to have the reinforcement budget draw from all fronts. they didn’t do it for Oshaune (which has WAY more deaths than the entire Cyberstan operation budget alone pre adjustment) they didn’t do it for Meridia or any other major operations. Did they think that players would be completely cool with bugdivers just wanting to chill on their preferred front on their one day off, its a really weird situation AH puts you in where you feel like you’re ruining the MO for everyone else by playing the game how you want, in my case I’ve just stopped playing until this whole thing ends since I don’t really like fighting automatons.
Secondly, the galactic war mechanics. The main playerbase hit EVERY potential blunder we could’ve possibly hit on the way to Cyberstan (to no fault of the larger casual playerbase). The biggest one being that most players don’t understand that we don’t need to defend every planet to maintain supply lines even if it cuts us off from friendly planets. One single dispatch MIGHT have resolved this. Or better yet, the galactic war tutorial that they keep promising which brings me to my third point.
Most players naturally assume that if a supply line is cut off then we therefore lose access to all of the other planets. Players who use external apps and understand the mechanics (which are a small minority) know that this isn’t the case. This, I believe, is where the devs have misunderstood greatly. I believe they have grown so reliant on these external apps that they’ve arrived to the point of expecting casual players to use these apps and likely believing that every player actually uses those apps, thus deciding to put an in game tutorial right at the bottom of the priority list despite all evidence pointing towards the fact that the majority playerbase DOES NOT UNDERSTAND it, and on top of that they tend to blame it on “tactical decisions made by the players” when in reality the casual player logs on, sees that everyone is on one planet and simply picks it for that sole reason because they assume its important, the irony being that there’s only so many players on that planet because they’ve all misunderstood the mechanics that they could only ever understand by watching external videos and apps. Most players, including myself, simply don’t care about any game THAT much.
