I cut off my family
I’m still coming to terms with this being reality, but I need a place to voice my thoughts, so please don’t mind my rambling.
For most of my life, I have been bullied, shamed, ostracized from my sister and mother. My sister was abusive both verbally and physically, constantly downplaying me, my friends, my girlfriend, and my achievements. She would never text me unless in extreme situations, so we were essentially estranged to begin with. She also was faced with favoritism from my mother and father (he is out of the picture). So her actions never faced any consequences and she got away with everything.
My mother has a severe issue with money. I’m not saying that she spends a lot, it’s that she is constantly paranoid about the money she has and what things get spent on. I imagine this is due to my father being and alcoholic and spending money to whits end without telling her, but that’s just speculation. My issue stems from her taking money from me ever since I was 14. At first she would tell me, saying she needed a few bucks to cover a bill, which I was initially ok with because she talked to me beforehand. This happened several times, but then I would notice money would be drawn out without my knowledge, money that I had anticipated being there and suddenly disappearing. From that point forward, I was told after the money was taken, or sometimes not all. Yes I was a kid, but I expected my own mother to talk to me about it. I should mention that very few of this money was paid back. She would yell at me whenever I would make a purchase above $50 dollars on myself. It was always “nothing is worth it if it’s above that amount! Spending money like this is a bad habit, you’re just like your father!” It’s been like this ever since.
There are so many other things that I could talk about, but I’ll go into detail later if people are interested.
Basically, in December of 2025, my mother sent me a very threatening text message accusing me of distancing myself and told me I would “relish in being independent since you obviously don’t want to talk to me.” Unfortunately that was my breaking point and I chose to distance myself even farther. Since then, my mother has used my sister to step in and try to get me to speak with her. I have refused and they are accusing me of starting this mess; that I am making my mom depressed and tearing the family apart. I don’t see how I’m doing that, personally. On a visit to pick up my legal documents, they locked me out and told me that I’m acting like a monster. My own sister compared me to Brian Kohberger…the Utah student killer. Mind you, I still technically lived there—it’s official on my drivers license and I was away at college during that time. My decision to block them came when my sister messaged me going on a rant about how I should ignore the issues because my childhood was good (relatively true), that I should just forgive them already because I’m making mom sad and that she’s been depressed about the situation.
I couldn’t take it anymore, I blocked her on everything. I will not let them dictate my life any longer. I’m done. I’m aware this is a lot, please don’t judge me too hard. Thank you for reading if you’ve made it this far.
TL;DR: after years of verbal, mental and physical pain and struggle from my mother and sister, I’ve decided to cut them out.
