Kawai K300 (Indonesia) vs Kayserburg KHA3 (Heritage) – beginner in India choosing first acoustic
Hi r/piano,
I’m a complete beginner (late 30s), but I’m committed to learning long-term and my main interest is classical music. I’m in India, where pricing is very different from the US/EU, and after looking at options I’m leaning toward an acoustic upright.
I’ve narrowed it down to two uprights that are similarly priced locally:
- Kawai K300 (Indonesia) — ~122 cm
- Kayserburg KHA3 (Heritage Series) — ~123 cm
I found the A Map of the Market For New Pianos chart (annotated image attached) which classifies:
- Kawai Indonesia verticals under Mid-Range
- Kayserburg Heritage under Premium
- (and Kawai Japan K-series / Kayserburg Artists/Master higher still)
I’m aware charts aren’t perfect, but since I’m not yet skilled enough to evaluate touch/tone deeply myself, I’d love real-world input.
Questions:
- Which would you recommend & why? Has anyone played either (or both)?
- How do they compare in terms of:
- action control/consistency
- tone quality/projection
- build quality / long-term stability
- For a serious beginner planning long-term classical study, would one be the safer choice?
Thanks!
