This comes from a report McKinsey [released](https://www.mckinsey.com/industries/financial-services/our-insights/the-rise-and-rise-of-the-global-balance-sheet-how-productively-are-we-using-our-wealth) in 2021, in particular this [chart](https://www.mckinsey.com/~/media/mckinsey/industries/financial%20services/our%20insights/the%20rise%20and%20rise%20of%20the%20global%20balance%20sheet%20how%20productively%20are%20we%20using%20our%20wealth/svgz-mgi-globalbalancesheets-ex3-v2.svgz?cq=50&cpy=Center) showing just how much value is taken up by land, other non-produced natural resources, and intangibles (which [includes but isn’t solely limited to](https://www.mckinsey.com/capabilities/growth-marketing-and-sales/our-insights/getting-tangible-about-intangibles-the-future-of-growth-and-productivity) patents/copyrights).

Georgists across history have proposed to tax/reform these things. This isn’t to say that, with something like land for example, we’ll get 35% of global net worth in real assets as revenue, [only the yearly amount paid](https://peoplesrent.substack.com/p/investigating-land-value-tax-rates) for these resources will be paid forward to society (assuming we tax them, Georgists have a variety of proposals for something like patents/copyrights). This also isn’t to say this is the end of Georgism’s impact, we have targeted [more](https://www.reddit.com/r/georgism/comments/1jya0qe/a_nonexhaustive_catalogue_of_economic_rent_sources/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) finite (i.e. non-replicable) assets beyond the ones listed, and we also know that a lot of [financial assets are tied to things like land as well](https://gameofrent.com/content/is-land-a-big-deal#:~:text=3.-,Land%20represents%20a%20significant%20%25%20of%20all%20major%20bank%20loans,-Banks).

But, about 40% of global real assets is certainly a good start.

Henry George’s ideas have only stayed relevant with time
