In Scotland. Am I responsible if my carer earns too much to claim carers allowance?
I’ll try to keep this as brief as possible.
I live in Scotland and claim ADP & UC LCWRA. I live with my friend, who is claiming carers allowance from Social Security Scotland. When they applied, I received a letter asking if they were in fact caring for me, and they are.
They’ve recently got a job at a supermarket part-time and I don’t know if they are still eligible for the carers allowance. I don’t know any details of how many hours they work, or their weekly income.
Am I responsible for making sure they don’t earn above the maximum income to receive carers allowance? I’m going to speak to them about it over the next few days, but I just want to know if this will affect me in anyway if they’ve been claiming longer than they should have? I worry that if they have claimed longer than they should’ve perhaps they would question why I didn’t know it as I’m living in the same house.
Thanks!
