How much meta knowledge does one need to be good?

Question

Obviously, to be a competitive, high-ranked, "top player" (aka "pro" aka "pro-streamer"), one should try to learn as much as possible.

But for the non-pros who still care about winning, performing well, and succeeding in build creations, what are the most important things one needs to know? And which parts of the game are helpful to know, but not as necessary to perform well?

To provide some examples, does one absolutely need to memorize...

  • the enemy build for every PvE encounter
  • the possible rewards from every PvE encounter
  • what items and events are available on certain days
  • what every Enchant does on every "class" of item (btw, I know you can always look it up online; but should one eventually memorize this?)
  • and so on...

I've played a lot of roguelikes and deckbuilders, but The Bazaar seems to require much more meta knowledge and memorization than usual. I mean, there are games where I feel just as good as any pro, honestly, but I've never bothered to memorize what 90% of enemies do or the probabilities behind certain opportunities.

Is there a way to play this game quickly, smoothly, and well without memorizing everything? Or do I bite the bullet and hit the books?
