When your bestie’s wedding turns into a friendship test… who’s actually wrong here?
Using fake names for privacy.
So Anaya is getting married. It is a big multi day wedding with events at different venues and a lot of movement. There is a huge amount of luggage involved. Anaya asked her childhood best friend Kiara to travel by car instead of train and bring some of the bags along.
Kiara had already planned to come by train because it was more affordable for her. When Anaya asked her to switch to driving and carry luggage, Kiara said it would cost more and asked if Anaya could cover the extra expense. Anaya did not take that well and the conversation escalated to Kiara saying she might not attend if she is being pressured to bring bags.
Here is where it gets complicated. Anaya earns significantly more than Kiara and is financially comfortable. At the same time, she is very particular about expenses. In the past, she has even skipped attending a close friend’s wedding because she felt the travel cost was too much.
On one side, Kiara planned according to her budget and suddenly she is expected to spend more money and also help with wedding logistics. That feels unfair.
On the other side, it is Anaya’s wedding. Big life moment. Emotions are high.
But if someone is asking for a favor that increases cost, should they not just offer to cover it?
It feels like this is less about money and more about effort, boundaries, and what friendship really means.
What do you think?
