Who funded the CIS military?

In AOTC it seemed quite clear to me that the megacorporations are funding the production of the droid armies

But at the same time the separatists leaders mention a few times that they need the war to continue to make more profits (e.g. during the republic-cis peace talks). I guess it means that they’re paid from producing droids (rather than paying for it themselves), because what profit is there to make from continuing a war if they pay for it?

The only other way of making profits from the war would be from pillaging but that doesn’t seem very likely since it’s afaik never mentioned, and it’s not really profitable (the costs of building the army would be significantly higher than the revenue)

From a doylist perspective I guess it was just an easy 'big corporation make money from war' trope but I wonder if there is more canon explanation on this
