How do boss skill unlocks work?

I saw I unlocked a bunch of skills for clearing graveyard with certain classes. I checked what I would get for clearing caves and saw that suplex was the tank skill unlocked for doing that.

But my most recent run my tank already had suplex?

Is there still a chance to get boss skills even if you never beat that boss? Or was that info on tank wrong?
