Should I find something new?
Always wanted to be an engineer. I was accepted out of high school, but fasfa wasn't enough. 15 years later I'm going back. I'm almost 1/3 of the way through. I've been knocking out classes at the community college. All As except a 89.4 in calc 1. Physics series is done, ace electives, English and speech. I even got an A in physics 2, but the teacher was great and test were open book.
I took calc 2 online over summer and failed miserably. I'm taking it again in person and doing better. I just bombed the series test. Thankfully it was curved so I got a 60, without the curve I would have had 38%. The highest was a 122% I currently have a 77% in the class. Last test is in two hours. We had two days to do the last section, 10-10.5.
I need a 27% to pass. So I think I'll pass. But I'm so stressed. I've been doing study groups and spending a solid 15+ hours a week studying with others. They all get high 80s to 90s on test. I'm just bad at memorization, and this class requires a lot of it.
I almost want to find something new. I love tinkering, I was a mechanic for 12 years. I repair tube amps and electronic all the time. I can track electrical issues really well, I've rewired my house, built led lights for aquariums, run a home lab with multiple vms and containers. I was a child who installed lights and a radio on an rc car at like 10 years old. Electrical engineering seemed like a great fit for me, and something I'd love.
I just can't seem to cut it for the pace expected. I'm a father, my wife is doing a double masters, the house needs maintenance, I work. Taking on debt to go back combined with poor performance is stressing me out even more.
My goal was to start looking for an internship soon, to find a higher paying job that is flexible enough for school. But from what I read, the whole program is as fast as calc 2. And that has me worried. Stuff doesn't click until after you test on it. But I've already been back at school for 2+ years. But I NEED to start taking more classes. I don't want to spend another 7 years in school. The sad part is this is my only class this semester.
Just curious on your thoughts. I'm stressed, running on 5 hours of sleep. I was out past midnight the last two night studying. Having two days to learn polar coordinates is insane. The only positive I see at the moment is that the community college is quarter based. Having 15 weeks to do the class seems like it would be easier to do well.
I just don't know any electrical engineering students to ask questions. Does it get worst or better? I know everyone hates calc 2. But I also don't want to dig a hole I can't get out of.
