"Low" (?) word recognition score
I've seen, an ENT, 2 audiologists & a hearing aid specialist. The last 2 I saw both mentioned my word recognition score, but didn't explain any further what that meant.
I've gone down the rabbit hole online & now I'm confused...
I have mild to moderate (like just moderate) cookie bite hearing loss. My word recognition score in my "bad" ear (where the moderate loss is) is 60. My score in my "good" ear is 70. I've had multiple tests & my "bad" ear consistently scores 60 while my "good" ear fluctuates up a bit, but is still in the 70 range.
Am I understanding correctly that a 60 is bad...?? Like, really bad for a mild to moderate hearing loss? And, could potentially mean HAs won't actually improve my speech recognition/speech clarity? I'm not really struggling with volume, I'm struggling with understanding what is actually being said. My brain seems to be really good at filling in the blanks, but doesn't necessarily hold on to what I didn't hear (if that makes sense). It's awful in groups & come away feeling exhausted & struggle to remember what anyone actually said.
