Apprepitant + zofran + lexapro
I finally found a neurogastroenterologist after years of struggling without the right care, and he started me on a combination that has honestly made a big difference for me.
I deal with severe chronic nausea and visceral hypersensitivity, and my gastroparesis seems to be due of post-COVID dysautonomia.
The combo I’m on:
• Aprepitant (NK1 blocker — helps nausea from the brain side)
• Zofran / ondansetron (5-HT3 antagonist — reduces gut-to-brain nausea signaling)
• Lexapro 20 mg (to calm the nervous system + hypersensitivity) focusses on all 5HT parts in the brain, or serotonin. But than can cause nausea so the zofran blocks the 1 antagonist that causes this.
Its like a viscious cycle but then good.
This combination actually helped me progress enough to come off my feeding tube, which I never thought would happen. Ive been on it for 2 years.
I’m definitely not “better” — I still feel awful most days — but it feels like a step in the right direction and more manageable.
I’m curious if anyone else here has experience with NK1 blockers like aprepitant, especially in combination with Zofran and an SSRI for nausea/hypersensitivity?
I also wanted to say to never stop searching for the right doctor that listens and has actual experience with motility problems.
I also also wanted to say that before, i tried every med in the book but nothing worked
