- The fact that Le Bon Marche is a high end mall was no surprise, even less surprising was the fact that we didn’t buy anything from there
- Empty handed, we eventually went next door to La Grande Epicerie, where we wanted to get our hands on French butter cookies and French butter
- We first bought 4 boxes of the same brand (1888) that Costco once sold
- Then walked to Citypharma, for the much sought after La Roche Posay products and other French staples
- About 10 products, €190 poorer and with the VAT paperwork for my French skincare purchase, we went back to La Grande Epicerie to buy even more butter cookies and French butter
- Just like there were hordes of tourists at Citypharma, likewise there were a good number of them milling in front of the butter section
- Butter flavor wise, we decided on 4 sticks of demi-sel, 2 seaweed, 2 vanilla, 1 onion, 1 truffle from the famous Le Beurre Bordier (The Ultimate Guide to Le Beurre Bordier Butter - LE GOURMET CENTRAL)
- Although our buttery purchase amounted more than €100, no VAT exemption for food
- What helped for international travelers were its vacuuming service, hence we were able to get two bags-full of butter vacuum sealed for the price of €1 per bag
- Precious butter in hand, hubby made sure that he kept the butter away from his body (heat) all they way back to the hotel
- At the hotel I handed our butter to an employee with instructions to keep it frozen in their freezer, a favour which they had gladly obliged to when asked earlier
