Getting to Floor 10: A Starter's Guide
Floor 10 is one of the first big milestones for the game, it's when you're able to change freely change your character from the Warrior archetype to the Rogue archetype. This gives you access to new build paths and more variety between runs, so it's a big deal.
A Good Build (usually) Beats the Recommended Floor Power
One of the best parts about the game is being able to build for the situation. As long as you're keeping an eye out for the floor gimmick and build for it, you should have a really good shot at clearing the stage.
-
Enemies with high Shield can be countered with Spear items
-
Enemies with Vamp/Healing can be countered with Torches (and Vamp with Cleansing Amulets)
-
Enemies that take less damage from Attacks can be countered with Spikes
-
Enemies that deal fast, early damage can be countered with high Shield
-
Poison/Burn can be cleared with Brooms
-
Gauntlet Stages go a lot better if you have some Healing or Vamp
Upgrade your Weapon First
Once you get access to Gear, you'll have equipment in your bag starting each run. This gear is great to have, but more importantly the gear itself gives you base stats. Weapon and Rings give Attack, and your Shield and Gloves give Health. Specifically, your Weapon and Shield give double the amount of stats as opposed to your other pieces of Gear. As a Warrior, it's easier to build more Health/Armor during a run than it is building damage, so breaking through Floor 10 is easier with a little more Attack.
Use your Pet!
You'll eventually unlock pets, which are great additions to help you get through those hard Rounds. You have 5 energy to spend on your pet's abilities, which require between 1-3 energy to use. Their abilities last for one Round, so they don't last forever. The important part is that every 4 rounds you get your energy back. A good strategy is to save a usage of your pet for the final round of the set (round 4, 8, and 12) so that you can hurdle past the hard part of the floor.
Look for Item Combos in the Shop
You don't have unlimited space in your backpack, or a limitless supply of money, so you want to be careful what you build. Try to aim for items that you know will merge into items you want during your run, like an Anvil to bulk up your armor, or a Throwing Axe if you're looking to build up your Club into the Axe tree. You can see what an item merges into by tapping the item and hitting the Book Icon in the bottom-right.
Build up Your Stats
Planning is 80% of the work, but having the stats to back it up makes getting through the floors a whole lot easier. You'll unlock Training at some point, which lets you spend Gold to gain stats. Gold is only used for Training, and Training applies to all characters. Don't save your money for the "next big character", all those stats will transfer over!
Keep Trying!
Damage numbers are fixed, but Hit Chance, Proc Chance, Crit Chance, and the Items that appear in the shop can always change. If the floor didn't go very well, you might have just gotten unlucky. Give it another go, you might have a better shot with a different build, or the enemy may miss a few more attacks next time.
Once you get to Floor 10 you'll have more systems start opening up, like Character/Pet Dungeons and Dragon's Blessings! Keep at it, and at Floor 15 you'll have access to the last archetype, the Mage, and you'll have a full toolkit to take on any floor.
