How much worse is the experience without the wii motion controls

Here we have a youtuber who is an old nintendo fan and praise both Mario Galaxy as one of the best games ever

So I want to try it

But he's also a "purist" guy that says you "lose all the magic" without the wii motion controls

And with that I am in position where I don't want to play it right now, because I don't have the wii motion controls
But also I don't want to spend money on something I would use in one or two games...

And I'm tired of that

I want to ask here what do you guys think?

I should listen to him and buy the controls for the real experience or should I play it with a standard joystick?
